What Makes Permanent Makeup Worth Considering?

Permanent makeup has become a popular beauty solution for many people seeking to enhance their natural features with minimal daily effort. This innovative technique offers a long-lasting alternative to traditional makeup, saving time and providing confidence. But what exactly makes permanent makeup worth considering? In this blog we will explore the benefits, process, and practical considerations of permanent makeup to help you decide if it’s the right choice for you. If you have any questions, get in touch and I can run through anything and everything you would like to know.

Understanding Permanent Makeup Overview

Permanent makeup, also known as micropigmentation, PMU or cosmetic tattooing, involves implanting pigment into the skin to mimic the appearance of makeup. This technique can be applied to various areas such as eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips, creating a polished look that lasts for years.

The process is performed by trained professionals who use specialized tools to deposit pigment into the dermal layer of the skin. Unlike traditional makeup that washes off daily, permanent makeup offers a more permanent solution that fades gradually over time, typically lasting between 1 to 5 years depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.

Benefits of Permanent Makeup

  • Time-saving: No need to apply makeup every day!

  • Waterproof and smudge-proof: Ideal for active lifestyles 👌🏼

  • Enhances natural features: Subtle or bold looks tailored to your preference.

  • Boosts confidence: Helps those with sparse eyebrows, uneven lips, or allergies to conventional makeup.

  • Cost-effective: Reduces spending on makeup products over time.

The Process and What to Expect

Before undergoing permanent makeup, it’s important to have a consultation with a certified and licensed artist. Here at Scarlett Peach PMU Ltd, a consultation is essential. During this session, we will discuss your desired look, skin type, and any medical considerations. The artist should also explain the procedure, including the pigments used and the healing process.

The procedure itself usually takes 1 to 2 hours. I sometimes ask clients to allow for 3 hours to allow them time to get there choices perfect. We begin with numbing the area to minimize discomfort. The artist then carefully applies pigment using a fine needle in a tattoo machine. After the treatment, the area may appear bolder and warmer, but this will subside within a few days.

Initial outer skin healing typically takes about 7 to 14 days, but a full heal (under the skin) can take up to 6-8 weeks. During this time, it’s crucial to follow aftercare instructions such as keeping the area clean, avoiding sun exposure, and no picking at scabs to ensure optimal results.

Common Areas for Permanent Makeup

  • Eyebrows: Powder Brows create fuller, more structured yet natural-looking brows.

  • Eyeliner: Enhances lash lines for a defined eye without daily application. Also giving the look of longer and fuller lashes! Possible winged liner for the correct client.

  • Lips: Adds colour and shape, correcting asymmetry or fading natural lip tone.

Why Choose Permanent Makeup?

Many people wonder what is permanent makeup and why it might be a good investment. Here are some compelling reasons:

Convenience and Efficiency

For busy individuals, permanent makeup eliminates the need for daily makeup routines. Whether you’re rushing to work/ heading to the gym or just looking after the grandkids, your makeup stays intact without touch-ups.

Suitable for Various Lifestyles

If you lead an active lifestyle involving swimming, sports, or outdoor activities, permanent makeup ensures your look remains flawless despite sweat or water exposure.

Confidence for Special Needs

People with medical conditions such as alopecia, vitiligo, or those about to undergo/ finished chemotherapy often benefit from permanent makeup to restore natural appearance and self-esteem.

Customisable and Natural Results

Modern techniques allow for highly customised results that suit your facial features and skin tone. Skilled artists can create subtle enhancements or more dramatic effects depending on your preference. You and your artist will input ideas and work together for the best results for you.

Practical Tips Before Getting Permanent Makeup

Before deciding on permanent makeup, consider the following practical tips to ensure a positive experience:

  1. Research and Choose a Qualified Artist

Look for certified professionals with good reviews and a portfolio of their work. It is essential that their work space is fully licensed by the local council.

  2. Understand the Risks and Aftercare

Like any cosmetic procedure, there are risks such as allergic reactions or infections. A patch test should be offered, however this is not a legal requirement. At Scarlett Peach PMU, this is essential. Follow aftercare instructions carefully.

  3. Start Small

If unsure, begin with a less visible area or a subtle enhancement to see how you like the results. I like to start conservative and build up if required.

  4. Consider Your Skin Type

Some skin types may retain pigment better than others. Discuss this with your artist.

  5. Plan for Touch-ups

Permanent makeup fades over time, so occasional touch-ups are necessary to maintain the look.

  6. Ensure your artist is available for any questions and that you feel comfortable in their hands. This is essentially a tattoo on your face.

The Long-Term Value of Permanent Makeup

Investing in permanent makeup can be cost-effective in the long run. Although the initial procedure may seem expensive, it reduces the need for daily makeup purchases and saves time. Additionally, the confidence boost and convenience it provides can improve your quality of life.

Permanent makeup also adapts well to ageing. As facial features change, touch-ups can refresh your look without the hassle of relearning makeup techniques.

Final Thoughts on Permanent Makeup

Permanent makeup is more than just a beauty trend - it’s a practical solution for enhancing your natural features with lasting results at any age (above 18 years old of course!). Whether you want to save time, improve your appearance, or address specific concerns, permanent makeup offers a versatile option worth considering.

By understanding the process, benefits, and necessary precautions, you can make an informed decision that aligns with your lifestyle and beauty goals.
